Adam was an absolute pleasure to work with. He helped me learn how to strength train and achieve fitness goals I never even thought possible. He helped me understand the importance of nutrition in helping me achieve my goals in a way that didn't set me up for failure. The founder of Own Your Fitness, Adam, has been instrumental in helping me to get on track with my fitness and nutrition. Regarding nutrition, as an emotional binge eater (especially of refined sugar, as in cake, cookies, ice cream, chocolate, and on and on and on), I needed help with both stopping the binge eating and starting healthy, consistent eating habits. I have been logging and Adam has been tracking on a daily basis what I eat, how much I eat, when I eat, and how I am feeling about my... eating. He makes suggestions after I submit every log to help me to make small adjustments to my eating behaviors with the goal of establishing good overall eating habits over time. He keeps me accountable, which is a crucial part of this nutrition and fitness plan for me. Unfortunately, until now, I have not had the self-discipline to do the right things with respect to food and exercise. Adam and I are building that internal mechanism every day. Regarding the fitness side, I started working with Adam in-person in the gym in my building and then continued to work with him virtually after the quarantine started. I was actually hesitant to work via videoconference, as I doubted it would be of the same quality/efficacy. As soon as I agreed to try it and we started on Zoom, I knew I had nothing to worry about! In-person and online, Adam knows how to meet me where I'm at in terms of my fitness level while also challenging me to push myself hard. He doesn't have much tolerance for whining but is not aggressive or hostile when I'm being a baby. He just pushes me to go a little harder based on what he knows I can handle. In short, Adam is passionate, punctual, knowledgable (he really knows how to customize a plan for the individual), reachable (voice, email, text, etc.), encouraging, experienced, attentive, kind, and nonjudgmental. I have been feeling better every day since starting with Adam. What does feeling better actually mean for me? My moods are more consistent, I do not have uncontrollable cravings for carbs and fat, my skin is better, my self-esteem is higher because I am finally in control of what goes into my body, my portions are a normal size (I used to binge on things other than fat and carbs, too!), my sleep is better (I am not waking up in a pool of sweat from a carb binge the night before), my waking up is easier (no food hangovers), I have more energy for workouts and never have to use the excuse that I am "sick" from eating too much, my body shape is slowly improving (I'm no spring chicken and understand that this progress will be slow but steady if I keep doing what Adam is recommending), and I am spending less money on the crap that used to provide very temporary relief from cravings, only to be followed by pain, demoralization, and, of course, more cravings.read more

I about 2 weeks into the fitness and nutrition coaching program with Adam and can feel the improvement in my fitness already. I’ve never been the most physically activity person and being 5 months postpartum, was eager to get healthy and back in shape. Im seeing great results with Adam. I’ve lost about 8lbs so far and am at least 50% better with my strength and stamina than when I started. Adam’s workouts have been varied and challenging and his guidance on my nutrition and hydration... needs on point. I’m eager to see this program through to the end.read more

I have tried many workouts in jersey city. After meeting own your fitness in their jersey city location it was a game changer. Very good at the initial assessment and consultation! In addition they are specialists in body transformation and weight loss. They have a great team and all carefully modify all the fitness routines based on the needs and goals. Great workouts, great professional customer service and always above and beyond. Over all great personal training experience in jersey city.... Give own your fitness a try. Adam’s approach is amazing - he took the time to listen to my fitness goals (weight gain and muscle building) and created a customized program that has already (in a month) helped me feel stronger physically and I have gained some quality muscle weight. Also when I finish my early AM work outs - I have so much positive energy that it provides a great mental boost. He also guided me about nutrition and follows up with me on that every time we meet. I really enjoyed every training session under Adam’s guidance. I did learn a lot in the handful of sessions I took because he would explain everything backed by science and with a relatable example (from your field!). After every session, I felt better and stronger. He has great work ethic and truly cares about his clients. He teaches you to value YOU. I found Own Your Own Fitness as I had just moved into the neighborhood and was looking for a new personal trainer and I’m so glad I did!!! Adam is a complete professional and takes great pride in his business. Upon the first initial fitness assessment, Adam was extremely thorough and I learned new things that I never knew before. Adam is a complete professional and an amazing trainer. He has an excellent team as well. He customizes work outs and always pushes you to go beyond your limits to help in getting faster results. I started personal training with Adam 3 months back and wish I started sooner. The HIIT class on Wednesday and Saturday is great as well.

Just finished my 13th class. Adam and his team is great. The classes are awesome. Tim is a such great instructor. I feel much stronger and more energetic than ever after I start taking classes with own my fitness. I used to work out a lot but didn't not do much weight training, now I learned to use the equipments in the gym. It has been really helpful for me!

Adam and his team has been pretty great from the very beginning. I have tried working out on my own and used several apps for a year or so, but none of them gave me the results I wanted and needed. Adam calls me a "hard-gainer" in which I've had trouble gaining weight and muscles (yep! we exist!). But with the training I've received from the team, I've seen so many improvements: toned upper body and thighs, proper form, and pretty good posture! Have I mentioned that it only took 5 sessions... with them to get to where I am now? He knows what you are capable of and pushes you when you feel like you want to give up. He's also helped me choose the right food to eat for my program! I feel stronger and I'm loving every minute of it! Excited for what's next!!read more

I started my journey with Adam almost 3 months ago. I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions of my life. I am not athletic and was so out of shape I could hardly walk up 1 flight of stairs without getting winded. I am now stronger, more confident, and not afraid of a few flights of stairs. UPDATE: 4 months in and I’ve gone down 1 jean size, very exciting progress!

In the 9 months that I’ve been training with Adam, we have gone on some serious adven

tures and powered through some tough plateaus. I’ve already lost 15 pounds with him, and only have another seven pounds to go! I started out seeing him twice a week, but he has really trained me to become a person who can actually train myself! I see him once a week now, and it’s always a workout that I couldn’t live without! I was a girl who didn’t believe in exercise – I had never kept a workout regimen for more than a week in my whole life. Adam has completely changed my life and my lifestyle. He changes up my workout every week to keep it interesting and I’m always sore the next day! I know working with Adam will help me reach my goal. The journey to the perfect body is a long one, and it’s easy to slip off the wagon, but Adam will make sure you get right back on and he will be there for you the whole way, encouraging you!

I have spent the past few years working with a number of different trainers but it’s really all about finding the right fit. I began training with EMPOWERED in April. The combination of cardiovascular work using the climbing wall and treadmill along with the martial arts and boxing sessions has resulted in my becoming much more defined and toned without adding bulk. Incorporating the use of free weights with lunges and leg presses enables us to maximize time and get the most efficient full body workout. Who knew push-ups could be so effective?! He makes the most of each of our sessions and allows time at the end of each one to stretch appropriately. As I said to a friend last week, training with EMPOWERED has helped with the day-to-day life experiences. It makes the bad times not seem as bad and the good times seem that much better!

I grew up playing soccer, skiing, and also ran four marathons in my twenties; I always considered myself an athlete. At 5’4″ and 130 pounds, I thought I was in okay shape. But while I could run endlessly, I couldn’t touch my toes! My legs were always strong, but I have never been able to do a pull up. It was my determination to finally do one that led me to train with EMPOWERED. When I found out, during my initial consultation, that my body fat percentage was above 30, I was shocked.

Adam has transformed me, both physically and mentally. His method of training is unparalleled, and I have worked with multiple personal trainers in the past. He is incredibly focused on his clients and comes up with varied and creative workouts, which incorporate his background as a martial artist and his knowledge of how the body works. My last workout included kicks, squats, and yoga-inspired pushups. At the end of it, I was not only able to touch my toes, I was able to reach about three inches beyond them. In fact, Adam is so good that my 61 year old mother now trains with him twice a week as well!

Adam challenges me. He never pushes me beyond what I can do, but constantly pushes me beyond what I thought I could do. I have never left with a strain or a pull, but I am 12 pounds lighter than when I started training. My body fat percentage is now below twenty. My first pull-up is a few short weeks away!
